Realm

Nestled in a ring of mountains, the land of Realm is a place of spirits and nature. For countless generations, the people have lived in harmony with both the magical and the mundane. Spirits of nature, fairy, and all kinds are abundant in Realm because of its proximity to the Veil. While there is no one location that can be pointed to, there are many places where the mundane brushes against the world of spirits.

Life in Realm was pastoral for many, many years. Recently, though, there has been a commotion from the north. Beyond the range that encloses Realm, the Eminent Empire has flown its airships bringing with them modern wizarding conveniences. Things like crystal engines, alchemically instant meals, easy communication, even trains spanning the countryside are now, nearly, a common sight. For some reason, the energies of Realm prevent the kind of casting that gives these imperial wizards their power. While enchanted items and spells cast outside of Realm work within the borders, new effects do not seem possible. In order to circumvent this, the Empire has built Trade Stations. Small bodegas managed by clockwork constructs in turn piloted by wizards outside of Realm.

It is in this world that you enter. A group of friends coming of age and finding their own path.

Realm makes use of the narrative stylings of the Wild Words system. Using Edges, Skills, and Aspects to build a pool of d6 to roll for a traditional spread of success. An award winning system that rewards player interaction, narrative story-telling, and crafting. The game also marks the introduction of the Destination mechanic. Players gather Landmarks as resources, either by scouting or asking the locals what’s around. They can then spend those Landmarks individually or collectively to design the next stop on their journey. There are also tables for traveling without using Landmarks, either by paying for train tickets or letting the Narrator roll on a table to surprise the players!
